Superdrug Nail Bar at London Fashion Weekend 2011

London Fashion Weekend at Somerset House

Today, I visited the London Fashion Weekend 2011 event at Somerset House – the ideal event for anyone wanting to catch a glimpse of all the fashion week action.

Me...

 ..and my sister

Over 100 designers and emerging brands were on sell with discounts up to 70%.  I spotted some of my favourites such as Juicy Couture, Olivia Rubin, House of Harlow and Sass & Bide.

Absolutely loved this jewellery stand especially the necklaces

Juicy Couture shoes on offer - heaven!

Loved the dresses in the Olivia Rubin room

I loved visiting all the different designer rooms especially Shoe Studio there were so many cute pumps to choose from!

How cute are these? Walking in them might be another story..!

After visiting the shoe bar and Olivia Rubin and Juicy Couture rooms and reveling over the amazing discount prices, I took the opportunity to relax with a nail manicure.
In the nail bar

The nail bar was buzzing, with music playing in the background and with lots of excited customers waiting for a manicure.  I was asked to pick a colour, I chose Rimmel Urban Princess 291, and I took a seat with the friendly manicurist, Charmaine who gave me a lovely manicure. Whilst I was getting my nails did, I asked her what tips she could give me which I could share with you all.

Getting my nails did!

She gave me lots of great advice to keep my nails in good condition:-

Woohoo ♥ my nails!

The nail bar was fantastic, I was so pleased with my manicure felt like a pampered princess when I was treated with a fab goodies filled with amazing products like cosmetic bag, facial wipes, hand-cream, mascara and lipgloss and lots more.

All the fab products in the goodie bag!

The staff were so friendly and the manicurists especially very nice helping customers pick out the best shades which would be popular this season such as bold block colours.

The best bit to emerge from London Fashion Weekend was definitely the Superdrug Nail Bar and the beauty and grooming products they offered.

Some of the Rimmel nail polish shades on offer at the nail bar

Rimmel definitely have a great selection of brilliant eye popping brights. If there is one rule to follow this season, is the brighter the better!

Today I went to London Fashion Weekend and decided to wear a playsuit with leggings teamed with a leather jacket, perfect for cold yet sunny days, typical London weather!

Kelly Osbourne New Face of Material Girl

Kelly Osbourne - new face of Material Girl

Lucky Kelly Osbourne is the new face of Madonna's fashion line, Material Girl and the pics look great!

When I heard Madonna and her daughter, Lourdes, were going to create their own clothing line I didn't really know what to expect. Yes I quite like Lourdes style, but Madonna's? Not so much!

Love this look! Definitely my favourite :-)

My expectations further plummeted when I heard that Courtney Love wannabe Taylor Momsen (Little J from Gossip Girl) was picked as the face of the brand. I completely understand Madonna wanting to go for the edgy branding but Taylor has proved to be far too controversial even by her fans standards (me including!).

Out with the old...

 In with the new!

So it was to my relief that Taylor had been replaced by Kelly Osbourne, the perfect choice. Since her recent weight lose, Kelly's confidence has grown and her style has really improved.  Perhaps I'm being slightly biased, but us British girls do have a natural edge to our style.  Give us a bin liner, we'll find a way to make it look hot!

Madonna was quoted as saying, "Kelly represents a true Material Girl. She is edgy, cool and has a unique sense of style that Lola and I love."

Go Kelly! ♥

New Look had a cool photo booth offering props like sunglasses and hats to pose for pictures so naturally we had a go at striking a pose..

Then we were shown to our seats where I spotted a few more celebs...

The ever-stylish Olivia Palermo in Jaeger dress, Temperley jacket and Charlotte Olympia shoe boots...

Then the show began!

 New Look
New Look started the show proving that 70s style is back this season. Halterneck jumpsuits, bootcut flares and oversized blouses were amongst my favourites, items I will definately be wearing this season. Bright colours such a pillarbox red (a favourite of mine see blog post below!) electric blue, bright purple and sunshine yellow all featured on the catwalk.

 Uniqlo
Uniqlo's collection echoed simplicity for the summer, showcasing classic looks such as denim, chinos, cargos, lightwear knitwear and cute polo tee shirts.
Next
Next captured the key styles this season and colour palettes, maxi-skirts, cute shorts and loose blouses all trends we will be wearing this Summer.

M&S
M&S focused on softer, feminine shapes embracing softer fabrics  like floral prints, suede and silk contrasted with edgier fabrics of leather and snakeskin.

  Warehouse
Warehouse showcased a range of looks from minimal neutrals to bold brights experimenting with shapes and textures for a relaxed but feminine look for Spring and Summer

   French Connection
French Connection presented a clean, feminine collection capturing chic yet retro 70s glamour.  Tailored shorts, tuxedo blazers bold colour dresses were key looks on the catwalk.

H&M (LOOK Curvy Supermodel Winner)
H&M's collection focused on 60s and 70s styles which were brightly coloured shapes that are short and shape alongside romantic silhouettes, that are long and elegant.

The LOOK show also announced the winner of their Curvy Supermodel Competition in conjunction with ITV's Lorraine show.  It was great that seeing the curvy models on the catwalk and LOOK magazine made that possible. Perhaps other designers will take their initiative and we will see more curvy models at London Fashion Week A/W 2011??

 My goodie bag ♥

Overall it was a great show, atmosphere was great and the collections from all the high street brands were impressive and lucky for me left with a goodie bag too!

PS. A big thank you to New Look for the tickets! ♥

Oh My GOSH makeup review

The goodies I reviewed
I am very happy to announce I am now a Beauty Blogger for Superdrug!  You can read my reviews here.

I am always on the look out for new shades of lip-gloss. I received two lovely colours of GOSH intense lip colour, 301 – pink beige and 306 - red.

The pink beige is a gorgeous nude though my favourite is the classic shade of pillar box red
The lip colour is a cross between a lipstick and lip gloss so when applied, it feels creamy and moisturised rather than sticky like some lip glosses.  It’s highly pigmented so the colour covers in a single sweep and lasts very well.

The packaging appears standard, square see-through tube and black lid, until on closer inspection you notice the mirror on one side and a cute light on the lid!  I love how the light is controlled by the push of the rubber button. It’s very bright and used with the mirror you can apply and re-apply the lip colour anywhere. Perfect for nights out when everyone is scrambling for the only mirror in the club toilets. You have your own – light included!

A mirror on the side & lights up - what more could a girl want?!
I also tried out the GOSH nail polishes I received Midnight Blue and Gasoline but it was Miss Grey 594 nail polish that really caught my eye...(far right).

(l-r) Gasoline 541, Midnight Blue 593, Miss Grey 594
I applied two coats of polish as the colour wasn’t as dark as I wanted it. I’ve been wearing Miss Grey for two days and so far no chipping…

Miss Grey - 594
Unlucky for me, I have short lashes :-( so am always on the look-out for lengthening mascaras.  I received two– Show Me Volume and Lengthening Step Mascara.  Show Me Volume Mascara is best for girls with natural (or false) eyelashes as it didn’t “do” anything for me. Whereas Lengthening Strength Mascara was much more suited to my lack of lashes.

The double-ended mascara wand has one end with clear serum and the other colour mascara in black.  It separates nicely, making my lashes look full and defined and has a nice, fluttery effect that I really like.

GOSH Glamorous Eye Shadow 18 Petrol, 21 Violet, 19 Navy Blue, 20 Black
I tested the GOSH Glamorous Eye shadow range. I really liked the shades 18 – Petrol and 21 – Violet. The darker shades 19 – Navy Blue and 20- Black are great to wear in the evening blended with the lighter shades.

The consistency of the eyeshadow is hard with a decent amount of shimmer and is fairly sheer. However, when used wet, the consistency becomes creamy.  I really liked the violet which I would definitely wear in the evening.  I can’t wait to try out the lighter shades and wear this Summer. Once you've tried one, you'll want to try them all!
