Is the Blackberry dead? According to UK rapper, GT Solo, the Blackberry RIM has had its day and is losing its battle to iphone and android with the youth market.
In the song, titled, “BB is Dead”, GT Solo outlines his reasons why he believes young people are avoiding the smartphone and opting for other phones such as the iphone and android instead.
In the humorous track, GT Solo lists the Blackberry faults whilst highlighting the benefits of RIM’s competitors, iphone and android.
He comments on the Blackberry’s slow internet browser, low-par camera, GPS inaccuracy, limited app selection and BBM chat’s lack of ability to disable broadcast messages.
The video shows GT Solo poking fun at the Blackberry, burning model dummies of the device and deeming the smartphone as “dead”.
According to GT Solo, the Blackberry has had its day and doesn’t hold the credibility with young people enjoyed by the iphone and android devices. He says:-
“I was a big fan of Blackberry in the past but nowadays me, my friends and followers on Twitter have moved away to more app lead smartphones like iphone and androids.”
“The Blackberry is good as a business phone but young people like me need a phone with more to offer. Blackberry is falling behind with slow internet speed and poor selection of apps.”
The video, “BB is dead” has over 7,000 hits in three days and has received coverage on many blogs, forums and websites.
Heated debates on Youtube and internet phone forums have demonstrated the fierce brand loyalty consumers hold but can this be maintained with today’s fickle consumer?
