The Bristol Hotel: 10 reasons to marry in Winter

My winter wedding

As temperature drops and we are approaching Christmas, it got me thinking about this time last year I was planning my winter wedding.

Winter weddings are increasing in popularity every year as more couples are choosing to get married in the winter months. Let's face it, UK weather can be unpredictable so there is no guarantee your summer wedding will have summer weather.

There's something about winter weddings that look so glamorous and magical, especially if it snows, which it did on my wedding day!

There are plenty of reasons why getting married in winter is a great idea. The Bristol Hotel, in the centre of the city overlooking the Bristol Harbourside lists their top ten:

It’s cool
Winter is undoubtedly the most romantic season; cold weather provides the perfect excuse to snuggle up to the one you love and where better than on your wedding day? Moreover, grooms will be more comfortable in their suits and brides need not worry about their make-up melting in the heat, as they would in summer.

Wedding dress
Brides can cover up in something super stylish à la Dr Zhivago, like a beautiful fur wrap, a fluffy bolero or a romantic silk velvet cloak, eradicating the self-consciousness that so often comes with a strapless summer dress.

Bouquet
Winter provides an opportunity to get creative with your bouquet; instead of going for fresh flowers, introduce feathers, silk flowers, crystals or even Christmas baubles if the timing is right! Better still, you can keep it and treasure it for life.

It’s Different
A winter date makes a wedding special in more ways than one – it will brighten up the dark days of your winter and guests are more likely to remember it, as winter weddings are few and far between compared with summer weddings.

Guests
You’re more likely to get all the people you really want at your wedding, as there is less likelihood that your wedding clashes with another wedding or someone’s summer holiday.

Availability
You’re more likely to secure your hairdresser, your favourite bridal photographer, you name it, because there are less weddings taking place.

More time
Less brides asking questions means that every wedding supplier that you use will have more time enabling them to provide a higher level of personalised service than usual.

Fun & Quirky
There are lots of fun and quirky elements you can introduce to a winter wedding, such as fake fur earmuffs on your flower girls, a snow globe as a topper and mugs of mulled wine or hot chocolate instead of sparkling wine or Champagne.

Honeymoon
Think about it: as a bride and groom that overseas honeymoon is going to be appreciated so much more when you’re escaping the depths of a British winter!

Value
Most services (venues, photographers and sweet buffets to name a few) are prepared to offer a discount during the “off-peak” winter months, making a winter wedding perfect for those brides on a budget, including The Bristol Hotel, which has put together an amazing value for money package that is valid till Spring 2015.
