Sole Essentials for The Summer

Festivals

My tickets for Wireless festival are booked – now I just need the perfect outfit….

I don’t know about you, but it’s not just the music that makes the festival – it’s the whole taking part and dressing up too! Festivals have turned into one of the most stylish events of the summer.  Agyness Deyn, Kate Moss, Alexa Chung, Fearne Cotton and Pixie Geldof, are some of my favourite UK Festie Besties – they always look fabulous come rain or shine.

 Kate Moss in her wellies

With the temperamental British weather, I need to be prepared just in case it does rain on the day. Which is why I am planning to buy some festival wellies.  Of course they won’t be anything like the traditional farmer Wellington boots!  Just because you're camping for three days at a festival it doesn't mean the fashion rules go out the tent!

There are tons of stylish, chic festival wellies that are out this season. I love the dogstooth checked  wellies, which unlike most, they come with an ultra glam 2 ½ inch wedged heel. A must have for any fashionista turning up to a festival this year.

Sole Essentials for The Summer continued...

This weekend in London reached 28 degrees, so that only means one thing - Summer is finally upon us (yay!) Once again the gladiator sandal remains my summer sandal fave.

If you thought that gladiator sandals couldn’t get any bigger than last season, then think again.

I purchased a few last Summer, from the traditional multiple strap, to the popular roman sandal with buckles and chains but this season I want a revamped version of the gladiator sandal.  I love the neutral colours that are appearing in stores now, especially the flat ankle cuff detail, giving a modern take on the gladiator sandal. These will go perfect with leggings or skinny jeans.

Though I love the simplicity of the Greco-Roman footwear, I’m loving this season’s heeled version even more. The black heeled caged gladiator sandals with multiple straps are ideal for nights outs.  The high heel adds a subtle feminine touch to any outfit.

Outfit of the Day Video

My new fashion video is up on youtube! I really love the new dress I'm wearing in this video.  It's the perfect little summer dress and would be great to wear in the evenings.

Now I just need the British weather to pick up again - if the news reports are true then that could be sooner then I think.  London is expected to have heatwaves soon - YAY *uber excited voice*

Sandals and summer dresses here I come! :-)

Outfit of the Day White Dresses

I have some good news to share with you...

A few weeks ago, I entered a Missguided competition to win some clothing from their website.  I really didn't think I would win (I rarely win anything!) so you can imagine my surprise when I found out that I was one of the winners! :-)

I picked this georgous long sleeved white dress - perfect for the summer.

I've had my eye on this dress for a while so i've fallen in love with it even more now that I won it - what a perfect gift!
So a big thanks to Missguided for picking me! ♥

M&S model Noemie Lenoir in suicide attempt

 Noemie Lenoir

Poor Noemie.  I heard news that the popular M&S french model is recovering in hospital after a failed suicide attempt.

Apparently, tabloids are reporting that the Victoria's Secrets model was found unconscious beside a pile of pills and empty spirits bottle after supposedly trying to commit suicide.

 The popular M&S Christmas advert

The details are really sketchy but its known that she called emergency services herself on Sunday afternoon then made a second call cancelling the ambulance.  She was then found lying in a forest on the outskirts of Paris by a passer-by walking his dog.
Noemie is best known in the UK for the huge advertising campaign for Marks & Spencers and THOSE underwear shots.

She has a five year old son with on and off ex-boyfriend Claude Makelele, the ex-Chelsea football star, called Kelyan.

Its so sad to hear news stories like this. Depression is a very sad illness, rarely a subject touched in the media.  When it is, the journalists are not kind and usually just label people as crazy.  Just look at how Britney Spears' breakdown was reported - awful!

It just goes to show, you can be rich, successful and beautiful. Yet none of it matters if you are not happy within.  A firm lesson to us all.

Get well soon Noemie ♥

Gordon Brown "steps down" as Labour Leader

 Gordon Brown..

Gordon Brown, UK Prime Minister, has just announced he is "stepping down" as leader of the Labour party, as his party opens formal talks with the Lib Dems about forming a government.

Gordon declared the national interest could be best served by a coalition between Lib Dems and Labour and that he would "discharge that duty to form that government."
Last Thursday's results of a hung parliament has made the future of British politics look very bleak indeed.

The last few days, the media have reported Tory and Lib Dem's in talks to form a government together.

However, with Gordon Brown's announcement this has completely changed the dynamics.  It's a positive step to smmooth the way of a deal between Labour and the Lib Dems for form a government.  And you can bet what party is absolutely fuming - you guessed it, Conservatives!

Gordon Brown at Press Conference today

By stepping down, Gordon has started a bid to keep Labour in power (and himself) for a limited period of time.

So what do you think? Will the Lib Dems choose the Tories or Labour to form a coliation government??

Wow, who knew British politics could get this exciting?!?!

RIP Lena Horne

Lena Horne

Was so so sad to hear the news of Lena Horne, the legendary actress/singer/dancer, had died at the age of 92.

Not many people know about Lena Horne, but you may have recognised her name from Halle Berry's famous speech when she accepted her Oscar award being the first Black woman to win the Best Actress category.

"This moment is for Dorothy Dandridge, Lena Horne, Diahann Carroll...It's for every nameless, faceless woman of colour who now has a chance because this door tonight has been opened."

And that's exactly what these women did. Opened the door to Black women in Hollywood, the media and on the big screen.

A pioneer among African American performers, Lena had both the talent and beauty to crack the race barrier in Hollywood in the 1940s.  Born in Brooklyn, New York in 1917, by the age of 16 she was singing in the famous Cotton Club.  She became the first African American performer to sign a long-term contract with a major Hollywood studio, MGM, and starred in popular musicals but what made her most popular was her role in Stormy Weathers.

Lena's musical career flourished but her movie career stagnated.  She had minor roles in films such as Boogie-Woogie Dream and Words and Music but did little to advance her film career mainly bceause of racist attitudes of the time.  Even during the height of her film careers she was often denied rooms at hotels she performed in because they would not let Blacks stay there.

Several of the scenes she shot for MGM were cut out when they were shown in the South as most theatres there refused to show any films that featured Black actors/actresses in anything other than subservient roles to white people.

By the 1960s, Lena was one of the most visable celebrities in the civil rights movement, joining 250,000 people in the 1963 march in Washington when Martin Luther King gave his "I have a Dream" speech.  She also spoke at a rally that same year with another civl rights leader, Medgar Evers, just days before his assassination.

These were several of the obstacles that Lena Horne (and others) faced during these times.  Yet she still managed to continue with a successful career spanning six decades.  She was one of the most respected, talented and beautiful performers of all time.

RIP Lena Horne. ♥

Footballers Pose For Vanity Fair..i'm in ♥!

Vanity Fair "world cup special" shoot...♥!

Has World Cup fever hit you yet?? Well it will when you see these pictures!

Ivory Coast's Didier Drogba and Portgual's Cristiano Ronaldo posed for this month's Vanity Fair magazine.  Other footballers included Cameroon's (YAY!) Samuel Eto, Ghana's Sulley Muntari, USA's Landon Donovan, Brazil's Kaka and Pato, Italy's Gianluigi Buffon, Serbia’s Dejan Stankovic, England’s Carlton Cole and Germany’s Michael Ballack.

Celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz (famous for her picture of pregnant Demi Moore and "that" topless shot of Miley Cyrus) shot them all - what a lucky lady she is!!!

Annie's other famous shots - Demi Moore and Miley Cyrus

She said, "In America, these men might not enjoy the same name recognition as the stars of the NFL, but for most of the planet, they are more than just showstoppers. They are gods."
  More fit men...woop woop!

She raises a good point - why is football (or soccer) a universal sport not as recognised in America?? Would love to hear from my American bloggers out there!

Anyhoo, I can certainly spot my Greek Adonis - infact I see many! Ladies (and gentlemen!) enjoy!!!

Beyonce's New Video "Why Don't You Love Me"

Reason 99 why I ♥ Beyonce..see for yourself below!!!

Costume Benefit Gala

The stars came out last night for the Costume Institute Gala Benefit held in New York.

Hosted by Oprah Winfrey and Vogue Editor Anna Wintour, it was to celebrate the opening of the American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

So who wore what? And who looked hot and a hot mess?? Well I have a ton of pictures for you to have a peak at!   As usual I will be giving my opinion on the outfits but  as always I want to hear from you...let me know what you think :-)

Katy Perry in her "light-up dress" - I actually quite like it..but don't ask me to wear it!

Of course there's always one star that shines the brightest..and in this case it was Katy Perry.  She wore a light-up dress made of bulbs!  It was created by a London based company called CuteCircuit.

The LED bulbs consume only a small amount of electricity so can be powered by small number of iPod batteries inside the skirt so it would be unlikely to overheat...she's braver than me!  The controls for her dress were in her bra!

Stella McCartney, Kate Hudson and Liv Tyler pose for pics -Liv looks georgous, I ♥ Kate's dress and Stella looks effortlessly chic as per usual.

Jessica wore a Sophie Theallet for GAP dress and Gwen wore her own designs from her collection L.A.M.B. Think I prefer Jessica's out of the two...

SJP wore a Halston dress and Fred Leighton vintage diamond bracelet-how lucky was she?! Emma Watson wore Burberry..AGAIN..though it is a beautiful dress she looked great.

If you're going to do bling do it like the Queen of Glitz J-Lo who wore a beautiful strapless Zuhair Murad gown, and less like Anne Hathaway who wore a Valentino dress..a little too bride like for my liking!

Kristin Davis wore a black floor length sweeping gown (yawn) while Eva Longoria Parker chose a silver embroidered gown by Marchesa..can't say I liked either of them that much sorry ladies!

Despite rumours of a breakup, Jessica and Justin arrived arm in arm wearing matching Ralph Lauren outfits.....awwww how cute!

Nicole Richie looked stunning in her Marc Jacobs dress and Alexa Chung brought her *unique* sense of style to the red carpet in Phillip Lim outfit - I ♥ Alexa's 'don't give a f**k attitude to opting for trousers instead of a dress like everyone else but i'll still pick Nicole's outfit over hers anyday!

Kristen Stewart wore the strangest little thing by Chanel..I don't care if Chanel hand-made it herself, why didn't someone SMART advise Kristen to remove that hideous shawl that covered her legs and just go with the black dress??? Anyhoo! Zoe Saldana wore a black dress (yawn) by Calvin Klein..the dress sits beautifully on her (she is georgous so that helps!) but black on the red carpet?? Just so incredibly boring!  Thankfully it's one shoulder which gave it a slight bit of pizazz

Rachel Weisz wore a lovely pink custom made Oscar de la Renta silk strapless gown (can you imagine..custom made?!) and the beautiful Kerry Washington (dress unknown)

Taylor Swift wore a Ralph Lauren dress that looked a little too "bridal" for my liking..and Kirsten Dunst wore a one shoulder Diane Von Furstenberg dress

Naomi Campbell and Marion Cotillard in Christian Dior - I ♥ Marion's dress!

Blake Lively showing her pins in a Marchesa dress which i ♥ particularly her shoes! And Eva Mendes looking great in a floral Dolce and Gabbana gown

Jude and Sienna making their first public appearance together as a couple....*shocking!* I ♥ Sienna's Emilio Pucci dress especially those heels!
