Throwback Track of the Week!

I hate whenever people refer to RnB music they can only mention the likes of Neyo and Usher and Chris Brown. Don't get me wrong, they are all fantastic artists but there is more to Rhythm and Blues than just these three young men! Take Basic Black for instance - this is one of my favourite tracks. If you don't know - get to know people!!!

Jade Goody
Today, reality TV star Jade Goody has undergone emergency surgery to remove a tumor on her bowel. Goody was diagnosed with cervical cancer in August 2008. Goody's agent, Max Clifford, released a statement to the media announcing her progress so far. He said, "As you would imagine she's very very sore and tender. She has tubes in her neck and up her nose to try to cure the pain." Earlier this week, Goody did an interview with the Sun where she revealed the cancer has spread to her bowel, liver and groin. She has two children with television presenter Jeff Brazier.

Sex And The City Sequel?

The stars of Sex And The City
It has been announced that ALL the stars of the Sex And The City movie have signed up for a sequel. The film is due to be released in Summer 2010 by Warner Bros, a perfect time for a summer chick flick! Although there has been stories of friction between the four leading ladies, it seems all is behind them now - perhaps the fee for starring in the sequel was too much to turn down?!? I am really looking forward to seeing the sequel are you??

Carole Puts Her Foot In It

Carole Thatcher
Those people at the BBC just can't help themselves can they? Only a few weeks ago Chris Moyles was in the headlines for insulting Polish people and I don't have to mention the Ross/Russ gate scandal of 2008. So I wouldn't say I was "surprised" to hear that Carole "2005 Queen of the Jungle" Thatcher, daughter of Margaret Thather, has been banned from the BBC after muttering a hideously shocking and revolting racist remark.
The jungle winner made the remark whilst appearing on BBC's The One Show where she worked as a roving reporter. She refferred to a tennis player (who has not yet been named) as a "golliwog".
A "Golli"
For all those who are not aware of what a golliwog is, what they represent or even what they look like let me enlighten you with this enchanting bit of history... The Golliwog is a character created in the late 19th century by Florence Kate Upton. It was inspired by a blackface minstrel doll which Upton found as a child in her aunt's attic in North London. Throughout time it has been reproduced as a commercial toy for children coming in forms of a rag-doll, in children's books and cartoons.

Although considered as a "toy" to some consumers, the term "golliwog" is a racist term for black people. The Golliwog has a wide smile, big bulgy eyes, a wide nose and huge afro hair showing similarities to people who performed in Minstrel shows, which lamponned black people in various ways, as ignorant, lazy, buffonish, joyous and musical.

Carol’s spokeswoman says that it was an “off the cuff remark made in jest” and added that she’d since apologised verbally and in writing to the BBC. The BBC confirmed that they had “no plans to work with Carol on The One Show at the present time”, with a spokesman adding, “The BBC considers any language of a racist nature wholly unacceptable. This is not the only time the term "golliwog" has appeared to spark insult and debate within the media.
  • In the 1980's popular children's author Enid Blyton replaced Mr. Golly in her Noddy books as Mr Sparks to avoid insult.
  • In September 2007, fashion retailer Zara stocked a Golliwog printed t-shirt. and a swastika emblazoned handbag As the designs caused so much controversy (including yours truly writing and receiving a written apology from Zara) the retailer was forced to remove the item of clothing.
  • In June 2007, world supermodel Naomi Campbell pleaded guilty to assault whilst travelling with British Airways. She claims her air-rage was fueled by being called a "Golliwog Supermodel" by a member of BA staff.

So.... Was the BBC correct to ban Carole for using this remark? Should Golliwog still be considered an offensive word? Is everyone over-reacting? Let me know!

Purple Lippy...hmm..thoughts??

I did mention I was a fan of Lady G's style and I am all for matching outfits with make-up or other accessories.
However girlfriend can't tell me this is a good look:-
Lady Gaga
Lilac/purple shade of lipstick does not compliment any woman's complexion - in fact the whole outfit just looks ridiculous and the mega sized bow - is it really necessary? She resembles a sickly elderly lady. Sorry Lady G I'm all for experimenting with fashion but this look is just Wrong with a capital W. Looks like this is going in my file of "Wack Fashion!" Although experimenting with lipstick shades does bring back some vivid memories - Pump Up The Jam anyone?!?
Technotronic 1989 this was my jam back in the day...at 3 years old lol!

Christian "Wilds" Out

Actor Christian Bale has had an audio clip leaked online of him shouting at production staff. The actor, known for his performances in American Psycho and most recently Batman, can be heard ranting on the set of Terminator Salvation. The clip, which is three minutes long, begins with Bale screaming "..Kick your F***king ass..!" to Shane Harlbut, in charge of the film's photography. The clip continues with more swearing, shouting and threats by the award winning British actor. When he is interrupted he tells "Bruce" whoever that may be "To keep the f**k out." Hmmm, if I were Bruce I wouldn't need to be told twice! Was Bale out of order? Or would you feel equally annoyed if the production team kept interrupting your "scene". Oooher you thespians!!!

I do not like SNOW!!!

Am I the only person who has not enjoyed ONE moment of the snow blizzard in the UK? Whilst many are making snowmen, sledging and having snow fights I am stuck in doors. Last weekend I was meant to go to Rollerdisco but oh no those plans were RUINED because of the snow! Oh well all dressed up and no where to go..can you tell my "smile" is as forced as they come?! Well at least those UGG boots came in handy for something!!!
